TRS Whitstable Helps Local Hospices to raise £50,000

charity archeryOn Friday 5th October, Towergate Risk Solutions (Whitstable) teamed up with local clients once again to help raise valuable funds for the Pilgrims Hopsices East Kent.

Hitting challenging targets and steering in the right direction were Tony Howard and Noel Davy, who, along with clients from Lansdell Soft Drinks and Grapes Direct Limit, were overall Team Winners in a Country Pursuits Day at Greenfields Shooting Range in Sturry, where Clay Pigeon Shooting, Archery, Go Karting and Driving Land Rovers blindfold were the order of the day as more than 80 participants helped raise over £10,000.

Chairman of the Hospice’s Canterbury fund-raising committee David Denne said: “It was a very enjoyable day and the teams battled hard. The weather was good and the range is the perfect location for this kind of thing. We have already had promises from some groups who want to bring more teams next time.”

It was driving of a different nature at The Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club, Deal where Graham Marks and Colin Birch, together with Stuart Lane (Sales Director, Lansdell Soft Drinks) and Lindsay Goode, Head Fund Raiser of The East Kent Hospices, took part in a Towergate Sponsored Charity Golf Day. Approximately 100 participants took part in a Four Ball team event that helped raise nearly £40,000.

The team did not quite challenge at the top of the Leaderboard, but had a thoroughly enjoyable day entertaining clients and raising money. Hospice Trustee and Event Organiser, John Pepper, said “We were blessed with fine golfing weather, which helped make the day very enjoyable. The club and its members were generous in letting us have the course free and with Towergate’s support we can ensure that the money raised goes straight to patient care at Pilgrims.”

Both events attracted extensive local press coverage throughout the region and further enhanced the Towergate name.

Twenty five years ago the first Pilgrims Hospice opened in Canterbury to provide love and care for those suffering from advanced incurable illnesses as well as support to their families and loved ones. Since then they have expanded to include hospices in Margate and Ashford, providing 56 inpatient beds, and are complemented by a community nursing team that brings care to patients in their own home.

The East Kent Hospices have to raise approximately £6 million a year through fund raising to provide its much-needed care for approximately 600,000 people in the region.
