Telford Team Mount Snowdon

Saturday 6th June 2009, 5.45am, members of Towergate Telford, inc’ family and friends and Group Charity Head Honcho, Julian Palmer, met to start the long journey to North West Wales to tackle Snowdon the 2nd highest mountain in the UK. The team that took on the task of solving Acorns Childrens’ Hospice’s transport problem, and bought them a van, had been inspired by the Kilamanjarro comic relief walk and decided to take on the 3580 ft that is Mount Snowdon to raise more funds for their local hospice.

Managing Director, Larry Smith, admitted that Towergate’s happy band of walkers had the combined mountain walking experience of an asthmatic ant carrying some very heavy shopping! The low cloud made visibility a challenge as well as numbing hands with the cold. Yet, in spite of the torrential rain, sleet and wind all of the team got to the top with the help of expert mountain guides, Paul and Zack. Highlight of the day was the two Jamies stripping down at the summit to their Borat night wear! It was zero visibility and at least 50 mph winds and the lads were running around in next to nothing!

“Many congratulations to Team Telford at Towergate for reaching the top of Mount Snowdon and raising money for hospice care. Not only did they show their determination to take on the challenge despite the bad weather, but they maintained true spirit and a sense of fun along the way. The team should feel proud of their efforts and the difference they will make to hospice care. Thank you.”
