At the heart of local communities
Help the Hospices is the leading charity supporting more than
200 hospices across the UK that care for adults, children and young
people with cancer and other terminal illnesses. We want the very
best care for everyone facing the end of life.
Hospice care

Hospice care helps people live well before they die. Care is
tailored to patients’ individual needs and supports their friends
and family too. The majority of patients are cared for in their own
homes, but support can be provided through day care and in hospices
themselves. Care is provided free of charge and happens where it’s
needed, for however long it’s needed, from diagnosis to the last
few days of life.
1 in 2 people know a close friend or relative who has
benefitted from hospice care - with hospices helping
360,000 people affected by life-limiting and terminal illnesses
each year. On average, hospices need to raise more than £5,500 per
day just to keep running, making hospice care the UK’s largest
community based fundraising cause.
Help the Hospices
The majority of hospice care in the UK is provided by our member
hospices – local charities rooted in the communities they serve.
Our role is to co-ordinate national fundraising initiatives, to
provide grants, professional education and training, funding and
support for hospices. We provide a collective voice for hospices to
government, making sure the needs of hospices, patients and their
families are heard. We raise public awareness and understanding of
hospice care by sharing knowledge between hospices. In everything
we do, we aim to make a real difference to the care given to
patients and their family and friends.

"The support and expertise of all the staff was beyond
anything we had ever imagined. It extended beyond patient care and
involved our entire family. We never ceased to be amazed by the
degree of help, understanding and empathy shown by
everybody." Son of a patient.
